Jio Rockers Bodyguard – Iron man with a heart
Victory Venkatesh has come up with a clean family entertainer ‘Bodyguard’ . The movie has Trisha in the lead role and Saloni as the supporting heroine. Bodyguard has been directed by Gopichand Malineni and Bellamonda Suresh has produced the film. Let us see how the movie stacks up.
Venkatadri ( Venkatesh ) is a tough bodyguard who is assigned to protect the family of Varadarajula Naidu (Prakash Raj). Keerthi (Trisha) is the college going daughter of Naidu and Venkatadri accompanies her to the college to keep a watch. Fed up with the close scrutiny maintained by Venkatadri, Keerthi hatches a plan with her friend Swathi (Saloni) to divert Venkatadri’s attention. Kerthi starts making anonymous calls and gets Venkatadri to believe that he has a lover.
A game that starts for fun soon turns serious and emotional bonds are formed. Varadarjulu meanwhile plans to get Keerthi married with bava, Naidu ( Subbaraju) . What happens next? Will Venkatadri know who his anonymous lover is? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :
Venkatesh is excellent in the role of Venkatadri. This is is a tailor made role for him and he performs with ease. He shows tremendous variations in his performance, first as the tough and loyal bodyguard and later as the man in love. He has done some high voltage fight sequences after a long time and fans will love it.
Trisha has done a great job in the role of Keerthi. Her performance shows that experience does make a difference to a movie. Her expressions when torn between love and family are good.
Saloni is the surprise package. She looks very pretty and her performance is rock solid, as always. She is such a good performer and it is a pity that her capabilities are never fully utilized.
Prakash Raj is good in his role. Ali and Dharmavarapu are ok. Venu Madhav is good Jayaprakash Reddy is brilliant in his cameo appearance.
Sentiment and comedy are present in balanced proportions. The climax has been handled terrifically and it is sure to bring up a few tears in many eyes. For those who have not seen the Hindi or Tamil versions, the climax twist is going to be quite a shock.
Minus Points :
The story is widely known because of the considerable success of the Hindi and Tamil versions, so you will know what to expect. There are some cliched moments in the film, especially in the love track. We have seen such scenes a thousand times before in our films.
The second half starts off slightly sluggishly and does not gain real momentum until the very end. Kota Srinivasa Rao has been wasted in an insignificant role. Sravan and Subbaraju are monotonous and it is time they showed some variation in performance. Some of the songs butt in at critical moments in the film and disrupt the flow.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is good. Editing is neat. Dialogues by Kona Venkat are very good and give the scenes a much needed boost. Thaman’s music is routine and background music is just about ok.
Some of the fight sequences are over the top but will probably appeal to B and C centers. Dances are good and have a typical Venky style.
Bodyguard is a nice, easy and clean watch. It has some decent comedy, a nice balance of romance and sentiment coupled with some solid performances from the lead cast. Good dialogues enhance the appeal of the film. If you can ignore some cliched moments in the film and a slightly slow second half, the movie is worth a watch. Venky has played to his strengths and families will love it. Thumbs up for Bodyguard.
